Organization

The Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board is a statutory body constituted under the Waqf Act, 1995. It is a body corporate: it acts through its Board and its officers, not through any individual acting alone.

How the Board is organised

The Board
The Chairman and Members together constitute the Board. Decisions on the administration of Waqf — sanctions, appointments, directions to institutions — are decisions of the Board taken on the record, not of any single office holder.
Chief Executive Officer
Responsible for carrying out the Board’s decisions and for the day-to-day administration of its office, its establishment and its correspondence.
Head Office
At Imdad Ghar, Vijayawada. It holds the register, receives applications, issues demands and receipts collections.
District offices
The Board’s presence in the districts, through which institutions and the public deal with it locally.
Inspection
Officers who verify institutions and properties on the ground against the register and report their findings.

What the Board is answerable for

Maintaining the register of Waqfs and their properties; supervising Mutawallis and managing committees; sanctioning leases and other dealings that require sanction; recovering the contribution due from institutions; protecting Waqf property from encroachment; and applying the income of each Waqf to the purposes it was dedicated for.
