Organization
The Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board is a statutory body constituted under the Waqf Act, 1995. It is a body corporate: it acts through its Board and its officers, not through any individual acting alone.
How the Board is organised
- The Board
- The Chairman and Members together constitute the Board. Decisions on the administration of Waqf — sanctions, appointments, directions to institutions — are decisions of the Board taken on the record, not of any single office holder.
- Chief Executive Officer
- Responsible for carrying out the Board’s decisions and for the day-to-day administration of its office, its establishment and its correspondence.
- Head Office
- At Imdad Ghar, Vijayawada. It holds the register, receives applications, issues demands and receipts collections.
- District offices
- The Board’s presence in the districts, through which institutions and the public deal with it locally.
- Inspection
- Officers who verify institutions and properties on the ground against the register and report their findings.
What the Board is answerable for
Maintaining the register of Waqfs and their properties; supervising Mutawallis and managing committees; sanctioning leases and other dealings that require sanction; recovering the contribution due from institutions; protecting Waqf property from encroachment; and applying the income of each Waqf to the purposes it was dedicated for.
