What the Board is

The Board is responsible for the general supervision and administration of Waqf institutions and properties within the State, in accordance with applicable legislation, State rules, Government Orders, Gazette notifications, Board proceedings and judicial directions.

A Waqf is the permanent dedication of movable or immovable property for purposes recognised as religious, pious or charitable. Waqf properties may support Masjids, Dargahs, Idgahs, Graveyards, Ashoorkhanas, Madrasas, educational institutions, orphanages, Musafir Khanas and other charitable institutions.

What the Board does

The Board works with Mutawallis, managing committees, district administrations and relevant government departments to:

• Register Waqf institutions and properties
• Maintain institutional and property records
• Protect Waqf properties
• Prevent unauthorised occupation and encroachment
• Supervise Mutawallis and managing committees
• Monitor institutional accounts and audits
• Coordinate legal matters
• Administer leases and tenancies
• Support lawful development of Waqf assets
• Promote education and community-welfare initiatives
• Provide citizen services and grievance redressal
